Capture tasks

There are five ways to create a task. Which one fits depends on where the task comes from.

With the form

For tasks where you already know more than the title.

  1. Click New task on the right above the board. If the button says "Quick capture", choose "New task" from the arrow next to it.
  2. Enter the title and, if you like, a description.
  3. Under "Properties" set priority, effort, deadline and project.
  4. Click Create. Enter in the title or Ctrl+Enter (Mac: Cmd+Enter) does the same.

At the top of the form you switch between Task and Goal.

With quick capture

For everything that just needs to get out of your head.

  1. Press N or Ctrl+K (Mac: Cmd+K). The button at the top right does the same.
  2. Type the title. Details such as #project, !!, 30m or tomorrow can go into the same line.
  3. Press Enter. The field stays open for the next task.
Key Effect
Enter capture, field stays open
Ctrl+Enter (Mac: Cmd+Enter) capture and close
Shift+Enter open a line with details
Esc close

The full shorthand is under Shorthand and shortcuts.

From an email

Part of Pro. Requires a connected mailbox.

  1. Open the inbox at the top right.
  2. Select the email.
  3. Click Create task.

The task is on the board afterwards, with sender and content of the email in the description. Aevo remembers the link: the email then says "Already an open task on your board". Create note turns the email into a note instead.

From an event

Part of Pro. Requires a connected calendar.

  1. Click the event in the timeline.
  2. Click Add as a task.

Suited to tasks that follow from a meeting.

From Microsoft Teams

Part of Pro. Requires Microsoft 365 to be connected in Aevo, with the same account you use in Teams. The extension is currently under review by Microsoft for the Teams store.

  1. In Teams click "…" on a message, then More actions.
  2. Choose Create task in Aevo.
  3. Check title and notes, choose workspace and due date, and confirm.

The task appears on the board once you reload Aevo or bring its window back to the front. More under Apps.

Good to know

  • If you create something the current filter hides, Aevo says so: "Created. The current filter hides it on the board."
  • A task without a date and without stars sits far down. That is as it should be: it is captured and out of the way.
